The man had an eager expression, no trace of fear or concern. His eyes held an extra
twinkle as a growing smile crinkled his face. “I have great news.”

Great news? At three in the morning? Thomas tried to think of a response.

“Do you believe some things cannot be explained?”

I feel that way right now. He nodded.

“Do you believe in miracles?”

How was he supposed to answer? Particularly to a minister. At three in the morning. The
pastor better get to the point. Thomas slumped into the chair.

The ticking of the clock seemed to grow louder.

Pastor Lockhardt rubbed his hands together, scooting his chair closer. “Sometimes, we
can’t understand things with our minds. We can only believe with our hearts.”

Again, Thomas nodded, the words little more than a buzz. Why such an abstract
conversation in the middle of the night?
